From May 14, meet Vital from Rwanda, Rosa from El Salvador and Igis from Albania at Mechelen, Kazerne Dossin. Vital, Rosa and Igis voluntarily returned home and are sharing, along with ten other returnees, their stories in the exhibition Re\𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯.
Several years ago, Magnum photographer Carl De Keyzer went on assignment for Fedasil and with the help of Caritas International and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to eight countries - Armenia, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, El Salvador, Brazil and Rwanda - to capture how returnees start over once they are back home.

About the exhibition
Since its creation, Fedasil has been coordinating the voluntary return program in addition to receiving asylum seekers. Fedasil helps migrants who want to return voluntarily to their country of origin. Thanks to the global network of Caritas International and the IOM, returnees also receive support after their arrival to facilitate their reintegration.
Would you like to discover the photos and stories of returnees? From 14 May to 31 August, you can visit Re\turn every day for free, except on Wednesday. The pictures of Carl De Keyzer go hand in hand with journalist Catherine Vuylsteke's stories.
This exhibition was organised with Caritas International and IOM and was made possible by AMIF.
About the venue
Re\turn will be on display from 14 May to 31 August as a temporary exhibition at Kazerne Dossin: memorial, museum and research centre on the Holocaust and human rights. Kazerne Dossin preserves, researches, displays and shares the history of the persecution of Jews, Sinti and Roma during the Second World War. From this place of remembrance, Kazerne Dossin broadens its perspective and questions the contemporary significance of human dignity and human rights.
By presenting current stories of voluntary return in this context, Re\turn opens a space for dialogue. Not to oversimplify similarities, but to reflect on questions that resonate both with today and yesterday: migration, departure and return, and people on the run.
