Embassies and consulates at Fedasil

01/12/2014
On 25 November foreign embassies and consulates were invited to the headquarters of Fedasil for a meeting on voluntary return.

Since 2009, Fedasil and IOM (International Organisation for Migration) have organised an annual event for embassies and foreign consulates in Belgium together, to focus on voluntary return. On Tuesday 25 November, representatives of embassies and consulates of around twenty-five countries attended this meeting, including some from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa. All these countries have to deal with migration flows, and also with the return of some of their compatriots. This session was primarily intended to provide information to the embassies and consulates and to remind them of the importance of their role in the efficient organisation of voluntary return. This year the event took the form of an exhibition. Fedasil, IOM Belgium-Luxembourg, Caritas and the European Reintegration Network (ERIN) each had an information booth on voluntary return and the various reintegration programmes in the countries of origin. The Directors-General of IOM and Fedasil took the floor to recall the importance and value of migration and the reintegration of people in society.
